As grocery price inflation hits 5.2%, now is the time to shop around and see what supermarkets are offering.
Remaining unbeaten on price so far this year, Lidl came out on top – beating rival discounter Aldi by just 31p.
The process that Which? undertakes happens every day for that month with the same 21 items being bought across the major supermarkets in the UK.
It found that, on average, shoppers at the German discount supermarket would have paid £26.83.
Last month, when 23 items were selected, average shoppers paid less with the shop costing £24.21.
Again, Aldi were still the second supermarket on price – just 62p behind.
There’s slightly better news as the cost between the cheapest (Lidl) and most expensive supermarket (Waitrose) fell from £9.50 to £9.21.
Meanwhile, Asda won the battle of the ‘big four’ – beating Sainsbury’s, Tesco and Morrisons with a basket costing £28.63.
