Homemade Pork and Apple Burgers

There's nothing better than making your own burgers from scratch. Recent studies have shown that UK eaters collectively eat 2.5 billion beef burgers a year. So, instead of beef, here's a different alternative.

Burgers are a frim favourite among students, either as a lunch or dinner, but there's something that stands out if you make them yourself.

Homemade Pork and Apple Burgers

Step 1

Quarter, core and grate the apple. Place the grated apple on a clean towel and squeeze out as much juice as you can (you don't want the burgers to be soggy).

Step 2

Put the pork mince into a mixing bowl, add the grated apple, some diced onion and the breadcrumbs until the mixture comes together. Remember to season with salt and pepper. Form into burgers and wash your hands after touching raw meat.

Step 3

Once your burgers are formed, heat a frying pan and add a touch of olive oil. Cook the burgers on each side for six to seven minutes. If you are unsure if they are uncooked, the burgers should no longer be pink in the middle.

Step 4

Once cooked, add some grated cheese and stick the burgers in the oven for a few minutes until the cheese has melted. Remove the burgers, be careful to do so, and add them to your burger buns.

Optional

In this dish, we made our own potato wedges and side salad. For this, chop your potatoes into wedges and place on a baking tray. Drizzle with olive oil and add some seasoning if you want, we added some paprika. Toss the wedges until coated and cook in the oven until golden brown or for at least 20 minutes.

For the salad, we shredded some lettuce, added some sundried tomatoes, chopped cherry tomatoes, some basil leaves, crispy onions and poured some balsamic dressing over it.
